Herding Group Pano

Nxai Pan National Park, Botswana

On the last morning of our safari in Nxai Pan National Park, Botswana, the elephants (Loxodonta africana) were on the move from one water hole to another. Here a small herding group with two young elephants makes its way past our vehicle. A group of elephants is known as a herd and is led by the oldest female called the matriarch. Male elephants, known as bulls, live alone or with a group of bachelors. Photo © copyright by Brian Divelbiss.
